 UNIT 4: IN THE BEDROOM 
 Lesson 2
A. Aims and objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
 - Say the letter D/d and the words duck, dog, door, desk and the phrases a duck 
 and a dog and a door and a desk in a chant.
 - Listen and identify the phrases A duck and a dog; A door and a desk.
1. Knowledge:
- Sound /d/
- Vocabulary: duck, dog, door, desk
- Phrases: A duck and a dog; A door and a desk.
2. Skills: Integrated skills (speaking and listening)
3. Attitude: Educate Ss to become studious and obedient students; love learning 
English 
4. Orientation of competence development.
- General competences: communicative, self- studying, problem-solving, and 
cooperative abilities.
- Specific competences: Speaking and listeing of the letter D/d .
B. Teaching aids:Textbook, recording, puppets, pictures 
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, objects, recording,computer, projector
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
C. Procedures: 1. Class organization: (1’) - Greeting
 - Checking for the students' attendance.
2. New lesson:

 Warm up:10’
 - Invite a few pupils to point to the - SS point and say.
 picture/poster and pronounce the sound of 
 the letter D/d and say the words duck, dog, 
 door, desk.
 1. Listen and chant:10’
 - Have pupils look at the chant and draw
 pupils’ attention to the first verse and 
 explain its meaning. Ask them to pay 
 attention to the letter D/d and the words -SS look and listen.

 - Play the recording of the first verse for 
 pupils to listen and to get familiarized with 
 the tune.
 - Play the recording again, ask pupils to

 verse. Show pupils how to chant and clap

to do the task.

- Select some pupils to the front of the class 
to chant and clap their hands. The rest of the 
class may sing the chant along and clap 
their hands.
2. Listen and tick :7’
- Have pupils point to the pictures of 
Question 1 and say:Can you see a dog? Can 
you see a duck? Yes. I can see a dog. I can 
see a duck. Draw pupils’ attention to the 
boxes next to the letters a and b. Check 
comprehension.
-Invite some pupils to point to the pictures 
and say the words in front of the class.
 -SS chant in front of the class.
 E.g. 1a: a dog, 1b: a duck.
- Play the recording for pupils to listen and 
tick the box.
- Let ss to listen again and check .
3.Look and trace.10’
- Have pupils look at the letter D (upper 
case) and d (lower case). Ask pupils to 
make sure if they recognize the two forms -SS look and listen.

- Tell pupils to trace the letter D/d. T can 
demonstrate by air tracing or tracing the broken lines of the letter D/d on the board.
 -Then let pupils do the tracing. Give further 
 support to those pupils who find it difficult

 - With a better class, write the letter D/d in 
 broken lines on the board and invite some 
 pupils to trace them.

- Asking Ps to focus on sounds and vocabulary again.
5. Homelink (1’) - Pupils learn by heart the chant p. 18. 
- Pupils trace the letter D//d in their workbooks.

 - Have pupils look at thepicture in Student’s 
 book. Point to the dog and ask them What is -Ss repeat.

 them to introduce a dog in English, saying 
 “This is a dog”.
 -Ask pupils to point to Picture a and say the 
 sentence This is a dog in chorus. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. -Ss look and listen.

the other things. Then let them point to the 
pictures and say the words.
-Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to 
practise introducing things to each other, 
saying “This is a ____.” Give further

the stress and the melody of the song. Then -SS practise.
